Da Nang sits on Vietnam's central coast between Hue and Hoi An, with its international airport just 3 km from the centre. Most visitors base themselves by My Khe Beach or in Hai Chau along the Han River, then head out to Son Tra Peninsula for the 67-metre Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda and to the caves and summit views of the Marble Mountains. Allow three to four days for the main sights, beach time and Hoi An; five to seven to slow down.

Good to know

Why visit Da Nang

  1. Swimmable city beaches

My Khe is wide with fine sand, and the water is swimmable most of the year, a short ride from the centre.

  2. Two UNESCO sites in reach

Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary now lie within Da Nang city and are common trips from the centre.

  3. Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills

A cable car climbs to this hill resort 35–40 km west, where a walkway is held up by giant stone hands.

  4. Hai Van Pass by train

The 103 km Da Nang–Hue line runs along the coast over the pass, on standard SE trains or the Heritage sightseeing train.

  5. Dragon Bridge at night

The bridge lights up in shifting colours, and on weekend evenings the head breathes fire and water; river cruises time trips to see it.

Tips that save time and money

  • Get a local tourist SIM and keep both Grab and Xanh SM so you can compare waiting times and fares when demand is high.
  • Check the driver's name, vehicle and plate in the app, and ignore anyone at the airport who approaches claiming to be your driver.
  • Use only official taxis and make sure the meter is switched on before the journey begins.
  • Keep food and water out of sight on Son Tra and at Linh Ung Pagoda, as monkeys will try to take them.
  • Go to Ba Na Hills early on a clear day for the best Golden Bridge photos.
